Digest #9: Staying sane in an always-on world
April 11, 2025
I set out to build unBurnt with lots of passion & tons of ideas about new ways to tackle the growing Burnout Epidemic.
According to Gallup, last year Employee Engagement hit a 10-year low, meanwhile the Headspace 2024 Workforce state of Mind reported that 77% of employees said that work stress had negatively impacted their physical health.
How did we get here?! 👉 is often on repeat in my head.
And while these stats have been a rallying cry…
I very quickly realized that I needed to recalibrate my own expectations with how much could and would get done in Year 1 of launching a new business.
I'd have to let almost all of my shiny, exciting ideas go...
(or at least back burner most)
...to focus on a very short list of priorities.
What’s keeping me sane while in build mode?
Personal Board of Advisors. Building remotely can be lonely. So I've assembled some incredible go-to people who are on speed dial, voice-memos, text or email when I need advice, a second set of eyes or a good old fashioned pep talk.
Sticking to my systems: It's far from perfect, but I've committed to movement most days and try to get a few good runs in every week. This is peak stress relief for me, so I try to protect these windows at all costs.
Recognizing that not everything can be executed on immediately.. and that’s OK: I'm learning to tolerate the discomfort of having imperfect marketing materials, stumbling around on Instagram, and deprioritizing things that I'm not ready to take on in the name of core focus on a few big pillars.
This isn’t perfect, but that’s not the goal.
As you continue to navigate life in this always-on world, I hope you are able to come back to your short list and find ways to give yourself grace on the days it doesn’t go according to plan.
